Gina Hens-Piazza Lecture Here
On Wednesday, March 5th
The public is invited, free of charge, to an evening with renowned Biblical scholar Gina Hens-Piazza, professor of Biblical Studies at the Jesuit School of Theology, at the 2nd Bishop John Cummins Lecture on Wednesday evening, March 5th, at 7:30 pm at Holy Names University. This lecture will take place in the Regents’ Theatre of the Valley Center for the Performing Arts. The title of her lecture is “Many Voices – One Text: Toward a Truly Catholic Biblical Interpretation.” To learn more, click here. |

Titled Birds Without Wings
Sylvester Okoro, a 2007 MBA graduate at Holy Names University, has written a book with Reina Murray titled, Birds Without Wings. This is Okoro’s first book. He currently is branch manager of a bank. To learn more, click here. |

Memorial Service December 8
Peter Liebowitz, who taught in the Holy Names University Business Department for the past three years, died on Nov. 25. Hawks Soccer Team Bows Out
of Region II Tourney; Season Ends
The HNU Men's Soccer team closed out an outstanding season Saturday at Concordia University, losing 3-0 in the semifinals of the Region II NAIA tournament. The Hawks wound up with a record of 14-3-2 and won eight of their last nine games. For more click here. |

The annual Holy Names University Homecoming celebration on October 13 drew 160 alumni and featured several events and announcements throughout a day blessed with sunny skies. Sister Rosemarie Nassif, SSND, PhD, president, in her State of the University message at the Saturday luncheon, announced a $140,000 gift. She also traced the history of the university. Hawaiian Dancers, Cheerleaders Among
Highlights of Annual CORE Festival
A troupe of HNU Hawaiian dancers (photo at left) wowed the audience at the annual CORE Festival in the St. Francis Courtyard Wednesday afternoon, September 3. The new HNU cheerleading squad also performed, as well as children from a nearby school and student singers. A bountiful barbecue was served buffet-style and scores of staff, faculty, students and friends attended the festive midday event. |

Holy Names has 1,125 Students
HNU has reached record enrollment levels this Fall, reaching the 1,125 number for the first time. Sister Rosemarie Nassiff, SSND, PhD, president of the university, announced the good news at Convocation on September 19th. 243 Students Graduate At 81st Commencement for HNU
Michael Morgan, conductor of the Oakland East Bay Symphony Orchestra, was the speaker as 243 students graduated on Saturday, May 19, at the 81st Commencement ceremonies for Holy Names University. Sister Rosemarie Nassif, SSND, PhD, president of HNU, noted that this was the 50th commencement on the present campus. HNU, founded in 1868, was first located at Lake Merritt in Downtown Oakland. Sister Rosemarie Honors 4th Grader Who Wrote Letter Saying She Wants to Attend Holy Names
It started as a class project created by Erin Rapposelli, fourth grade teacher at St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Alameda. It ended with the president of Holy Names University paying a surprise visit to a girl in that class who wrote a compelling letter. Cick here to read more. |
